Buck Hoist Operators are responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of personnel and material hoists used to transport workers, equipment, and materials between floors and multi-story buildings under construction.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining projects productivity and safety, ensuring timely access to work areas and supporting overall site logistics.
Operate buck hoist (external construction elevator) according to manufacturer specifications and site safety protocols.
• Load and unload personnel, tools, equipment, construction materials and general construction trash/debris while ensuring weight and capacity limits are never exceeded.
• Monitor the hoist during operation for unusual noises, movements, or signs of malfunction.
• Conduct daily pre-operational inspections of the hoist, including brakes, cables, rails, doors, and emergency systems.
• Immediately report any mechanical or safety issues to the hoist technician or site supervisor.
• Maintain constant communication with ground crews, upper floor personnel, riggers, and site management via two-way radio or hand signals
. • Serve as the first point of contact for tradespeople needing vertical transport—maintain professionalism and provide courteous service
. • Control access to hoist cars, ensuring only authorized personnel are transported
. • May be required to operate other construction equipment or perform manual labor tasks.
• Willingness to learn and take direction from others.
• Must be able and willing to create and maintain a good working relationship with all employees within the team
. • General building and site construction cleanup
