Job Summary

HireQuest Direct is seeking dependable, safety-focused Certified Flaggers to assist with traffic control operations on road construction, utility, maintenance, and infrastructure projects throughout the Raleigh area. The Certified Flagger is responsible for directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely through work zones while protecting workers, motorists, and the public.

This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain alert and focused in a fast-paced outdoor environment. Candidates must possess a current North Carolina-approved flagger certification and be able to work in varying weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic through construction and maintenance work zones.
Utilize stop/slow paddles, warning signs, hand signals, and other traffic control devices according to state and federal regulations.
Maintain safe traffic flow around construction crews, road projects, utility work, and emergency repair sites.
Communicate effectively with fellow flaggers, supervisors, equipment operators, and project personnel.
Monitor work zone conditions and immediately report unsafe situations or hazards.
Set up and remove traffic control devices, cones, barricades, and signage as directed.
Follow all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) guidelines, and company safety policies.
Remain highly visible and attentive to changing traffic patterns throughout the work shift.
Assist with general labor duties when traffic control responsibilities are not required.
Attend safety meetings and complete all required documentation.
Required Qualifications
Current North Carolina-approved Flagger Certification.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety procedures.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be dependable, punctual, and safety-oriented.
Ability to pass pre-employment screening if required by client.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
Ability to maintain alertness and concentration throughout the workday.
Work Environment
Road construction zones
Highway and roadway maintenance projects
Utility and telecommunications projects
Commercial construction sites
Municipal and state infrastructure projects

Work may occur during:

Day shifts
Night shifts
Weekends
Overtime as required
Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
High-visibility safety vest (ANSI Class 2 or Class 3)
Hard hat
Safety glasses
Work gloves
Steel-toe boots
Additional PPE as required by client or jobsite
