A skilled professional responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking food in cafeterias, or other food service settings. They follow recipes, measure ingredients, and use a variety of cooking techniques such as baking, grilling, frying, and steaming to create meals that are both safe and appealing. Cooks must maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, often guided by practices from Culinary Arts and certification programs like ServSafe. In addition to cooking, they organize workstations, manage time efficiently, and ensure ingredients are stored properly. Good communication and teamwork are essential, as cooks often work closely with other kitchen staff to deliver meals quickly and consistently. Overall, a cook combines technical skills, creativity, and attention to detail to provide quality food and a positive dining experience.
